Melanotaenia trifasciata are found in the North and North Eastern parts of N.T and the upper areas of the Cape York Peninsula. They are quite a few varieties of these fish and most will grow to 12cm but more common at 5-8cm. They are also know as Banded Rainbowfish due to their dark lateral strip down the center of their body.
