There
are quite a few things that you can and should do to keep your fish healthy,
most are common sense if you start comparing the aquarium that you fish
live in to those that you live in.
For example! you don't leave all your windows and doors in your house shut
for any prolonged period of time nor do you forget to flush the toilet every
time you use it. For if you did do this the house would start to smell and
be unlivable in a very short period of time.
Well the same can be said about your fishes environment, if you don't do
regular water changes {20%
every two weeks at least} and clean the gravel at least
once a month ( Only if you don't have plants in it
) then your fishes environment will actually
degrade very fast and result in all kinds of problems like diseases, deaths
and the likes.
It is also advisable not to over feed your fish and to miss a feed at least
once a week. It is hard to say just how much is to much but as a rule of
thumb if there is any food left floating in the tank after a couple of minutes
then reduce the amount that your feeding them. This will also help on reducing
the amount of nutrients in your tank (uneaten fish
for will normally descend to the bottom of the tank and decay). You
should also vary the type of fish food that you give to your fish between
flake, pellets and either frozen or live foods, this will give tem a balance
diet. For large Rainbowfish feeding them some duck weed once a week will
help them greatly. |
